Basic Bible Facts
A basic knowledge of the Old Testament does include learning a certain set of
facts regarding dates, places, persons, and events. Here is an OT
Facts Test.pdf (and a
OT Facts Test KEY.pdf).
As a church professional, this test reflects a minimal set of facts you should
know.
- Read through this survey and use it to help you correlate dates, people,
and places. You need to deal only with the OT for now.
- This chart provides a way of organizing the Biblical events, books,
people, and places that are treated individually in the sections below.
- You do NOT need to memorize the order of the books of the Bible. You
should, however, know if a book is from the Old Testament, New Testament, or
Apocrypha.
- For an Old Testament book, you should know whether it is one of the books
of the Pentateuch, Historical Books, Psalms and Writings, or Prophets.
- Be able to identify each of the persons listed here who are mentioned in
the OT.
- Study the Biblical maps of "The Ancient World," "Old
Testament Palestine," and the "Fertile Crescent.". Be able to identify the location of each of
the bodies of water, cities, and regions listed.
- Be able to identify each of the terms listed on this page (except for
Pharisees and Sadducees).
- Use the various self-tests on this page to prepare for the midterm exam.
