For each class session:
- Complete any assigned reading
- Translate the parable to be discussed in class; if the parable appears
in more than one Gospel, you need not translate more than one
- Read the appropriate section in Hultgren or
Snodgrass relating to the parable
- Read the appropriate section in
Scott/or/Capon/Herzog/Schottroff/Buttrick relating to the
parable
September 8
- Start looking around this course web page,
resources, syllabus, parable projects, etc.
- Go to the Fishersnet course web site and login
(you should all be registered and have been sent user names and passwords;
if not, contact me)
- Play around the site a bit. There will not
be a lot of content on that site, since I will be posting most of
what you need to know on this web page. For now, click on the
"Discussion Board" button on the left and then check in the
Open Forum. Feel free to jump in!
- Bring a Bible (Greek & English; hardcopy or on computer) to class
- Introduction to the Parables of Jesus
If needed, get your computer ready to go with Unicode Greek.

- Read Hultgren, The Parables of Jesus, pages 1-19
OR Snodgrass, Stories with Intent, pages 1-35 (37-59). The
reading guides are simply to help you identify key elements as you read.
- Go to the Fishersnet site and note the
assignments related to your reading.

(You are certainly welcome to read the other forum, but you do not need
to provide responses.)

- Demonstrate how you might ‘re-present’ the parable or at least describe plans for how you would do so. This re-presentation might take the form of a poem, short story, song, PowerPoint, video, sermon, interactive Bible study, dramatization or skit artistic work, etc. The goal is to find an appropriate way for the parable to be experienced by a particular audience. Your group will have about 15 minutes to re-present (or describe the planned re-presentation of) the parable and solicit feedback from the class.
