Be working on your Final Reflection Paper due THIS DAY.
(From the syllabus) A final reflection paper (2-3 pages; double-spaced; 12 pt font; 1.25 inch margins on all sides) will be submitted by the end of the course. In this reflection paper the student will address how one’s role/call to be a leader in the mission of the church for the 21st century world is guided, grounded, and enhanced by a better understanding of the Old Testament.
Read Malachi.
Read Psalm 150!!
Be sure to check out Bible Basics and the links for the OT Apocrypha and Pseudepigrapha.
Check in at the FishersNet Forum. Answer at least ONE of the following questions:
Large Group 1: My favorite character or book of the OT is _______ because ...
Large Group 2: "What threads or themes do you find in the OT make it important for NT Christians?" (I'm not looking for essays here! Be succinct, but you may find it helpful to use this discussion as you formulate your final reflection paper.)
NOTE: Those of you who did a project associated with RUTH or JONAH, please be prepared to share some comments about your work!
Read Chapter 12 in TIOT, pages 417-448.

How is work on your project coming?
A number of you have inquired about the Amos song I played. It is "Justice" by Jonnys in the Basement. Download the MP3 at http://www.proost.co.uk/backbone.html (You can pick up a couple more of their MP3s at: http://www.britlinks.co.uk/bands/band.phtml?band=Jonnys+In+The+Basement - also check for similar music at: http://www.proost.co.uk/sampler.html )
Read Chapter 8 of TIOT, pages 253-282.
Introduction to the Psalms - Psalm 23 Exercise
"[The Psalter] might well be called a little Bible. In it is comprehended
most beautifully and briefly everything that is in the entire Bible. . .
.Anyone who could not read the whole Bible would here have anyway almost an
entire summary of it, comprised in one little book." (Martin Luther)
You need to have your OT Basic Facts test completed!
This week I am asking you to read Amos, Hosea, Micah, and Zephaniah. (I am NOT asking you to read Isaiah 1-39, and it is a significant omission. Put it on your to do list!)
If at all possible, read Amos using this site: Amos - Postmodern Bible hypermedia commentary for serious Bible study (I would be interested in any comments you have on this site.) Use your study Bibles for Hosea, Micah, and Zephaniah.

that fiscally keep this site online.)

Who Wrote the Torah or or JEDP Sources in the Pentateuch or The Analysis of the Pentateuch
Writers of the Book of Genesis (provides a color-coded guide to JEDP in Gen 1-11)
Exercise Assignment (may be completed with a partner) - Do either A or B. Total length of responses should be about a half page. You may bring this to class or email it to me.
A) Read Psalm 8. How does this psalm complement or interpret the creation accounts in Genesis 1-2? How does the form (narrative as compared to a psalm) affect what you would know and understand about the creation account?
B) Look at this picture: Temptation of Adam and Eve (somewhat lighter and clearer version at: http://cgfa.floridaimaging.com/g/p-goes3.htm ). What things do you observe about the painting that indicate a close reading of the biblical text? Note that this is a different 'form' (artistic rather than literary representation) of the account in Genesis 3. How does the form affect what you would know and understand about the story?
