In preparation for our BibleWorks workshop:
Be sure you have already set up your system following these steps:
Things will go a lot faster if you use "My Recommendations" for setting up BW7
and learning its capabilities
If you have time, working through some of this will speed up the learning
process for you:
I would like to take some time in class to show you how to install some
user-created databases. You will have to download some of these in advance of
the class. (Besides the time to download, we don't want 30 of you trying to
download at the same time!) Here are some of the most highly recommended
downloads.
User-Created Databases
The following files should be downloaded into your
C:\Program Files\BibleWorks7\userdb
directory. They they need to be compiled within BW7. (I will give an example in
class. NOTE: be sure path names are correct.)
Synopsis files
Download the following files. Unzip the files
into your C:\Program Files\BibleWorks7\init
directory
Vocabulary Files
Download the following file. Unzip the files
into your C:\Program Files\BibleWorks7\init
directory
Custom Modules
There really is an amazing collection of free custom modules for BW7... too
many to list here. Go to the BW
Blog page here, and download and unzip the files into your C:\Program Files\BibleWorks7\databases
directory. Some I especially recommend:
-
Goodwin's and Smyth's Grammars
-
E-Catena Church Father Allusions
- Whatever codices you have time to download,
but do get "Textual Commentary on the Gospels" by Willker
- Book of Concord !!
- Bible Geocoding Maps and Revised Common
Lectionary
Advanced
- If you want, download
("Save target as" >> do NOT click on link to open) this file
into your ...\BibleWorks7\init directory: ParallelTextsGrkHebEnglish.vdo
- It creates the order for your versions to appear. Use Tools >
Options > Open to select the file. You may edit it as you wish.
- If you want, download
("Save target as" >> do NOT click on link to open) this file
into your ...\BibleWorks7\init directory: fav.fav.par.phi.joe.x.af.swc
- It creates a collection of preset tab favorites for you. Click on
the button just to the left of the command line to open / edit / save
these tab settings.
- BibleWorks has a powerful ability to create links to external programs.
If you want to start with a rather extensive collection of links that I
have compiled, follow these steps.
- Make sure BW7 is not running
- Go to your BibleWorks7\init directory and make a copy of the file
called "ShellExec.txt." (In case something
bad
unexpected happens, you can restore your original file.)
- Download ShellExec.txt
- Restart BW7.
- Right click on any text in the center Browse Window, and you should
see lots of new options. Some of them connect to links on the
Internet, but I also have a number of links to resources you may not
have on your computer (e.g., Logos)
- To edit links, use Resources > Edit External Links and either
Delete or uncheck "Enable this link" for links you do not
want
