New Testament Greek Software Resources
Bible Programs for Windows
- BibleWorks ($350 MSRP; discount for 10+ orders when purchased for academic use
> ~$250+)
Excellent for its primary focus which is on working with
Greek/Hebrew/English biblical texts, but it links well with a number of lexical and
grammatical resources, and it is very fast. (If you have the money, be sure to add in the BDAG
Lexicon and Wallace's
Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics.)
- Logos Research (note: special pricing up to 40% off for LTSG students)
Logos (which established and uses the Libronix system) is primarily a library system that has
text search capabilities. It is able to connect biblical text with the text
of many very useful and important books: lexicons, commentaries, textbooks,
reference works, etc. (It does also include lots of
books that you will probably never [want to] use.) Logos does require more
computing power to work fast. What this program can do, for example,
is provide an English meaning for the Greek word you are looking at and then
find all the instances of that word or verse in any other book you have
purchased including things like textbooks, complete Lutheran library, etc. -
Check out their
Comparison Chart - (As with BibleWorks, also consider BDAG and Wallace)
- NOTE: BibleWorks and Logos are the two big players in this area. Logos is
the more comprehensive program, but keep this
distinction in mind:
- BibleWorks is primarily designed as a textual research tool for
Biblical texts and is linked to (a library of) lexical and grammatical
aids.
- Logos is primarily a library management program that is able to do
textual work and provide links among the books of your library.

English Based Texts and Study Tools
Greek New Testament Texts and Study Tools
The Greek New Testament
Gateway - start here. Among the sites listed, I recommend:
- www.zhubert.com - Start with
this one. Mouseover provides analysis and Strong's definitions. One-click
searching with results charted and links to Perseus. Other nice tools in the
Concordance, Book Study, Flashcard, and Vocab Lists. Can set up parallel
Greek, NET, NAS, KJV, ESV, and Codex Sinaiticus. Additional linking to text
critical data at laparola.
- The Online Greek
Bible (NA26)- Can display unaccented Greek, but outstanding with the Athena or
Palatino Unicode fonts. Includes one-click parsing and definitions.
- The Unbound Bible
(NA26)- Another wonderful resource that also includes the Septuagint (Greek Old
Testament). Under "Power Search," you can even line up multiple translations.
Also check out their:
- Greek New Testament
- (essentially NA26) - Fairly fast and easy to use. Search by
chapter or for words with full grammatical search capabilities.. Click on a word for its analysis.
-
Biblon 2000 - Especially useful to look at textual variants and to view
some of the original manuscripts.
-
New Testament (Westcott and Hort) at the Perseus Digital Library. The
beauty of this site is that every word is analyzed and linked to the great
classical Greek-English Lexicon of Liddell and Scott and subsequently
to examples from classical Greek.
-
To listen to the Greek NT, go to:
GREEK NEW TESTAMENT audio files: (RealPlayer needed)
NA26 refers to the Nestle-Aland 26th edition of the
Greek NT. A standard version though now superceded by the substantially similar
27th edition. Westcott and Hort's edition is probably not the best Greek
version, but the differences are not substantial.
Macintosh or Linux?
The programs listed above may run properly under Windows emulators.
Check the sites for more info. Gramcord does offer:
Accordance for Bible Study.
Logos is also advertising a Logos for Mac
to be released late summer of 2006.
