Friday, April (17 >>) 20: Exegetical Summary Due
I'm running a couple days behind on getting your exercises back, and some of you have expressed concern in light of other papers due at this time, so I have moved the due date back from Tuesday until Friday at 5PM. I'll say more in class on Tuesday the 17th about the paper.

  • An Exegetical Procedure for Gospel Texts - I will say more about this in class, but a number of you have been asking for advance notice. So far (as of 3/20), we have almost completed everything through Step 2, though you will want to look through all the sub-steps to see if you missed anything. Step 3 really is intended as only a follow-up to the work you will already have done. Step 4 is the actual writing, and be sure to follow the guidelines here closely!
    • Paper will be between 4-5 pages long (single spaced; 1.25" margins on all sides; 12 point font)
      • Section 1 is a summary of the work you did in the exegetical exercises is at most 2 pages long
      • Section 2 is the interpretive summary based on a clear thesis statement and is at most 3 pages long
    • Paper is due at 5pm. (Late papers will be assessed a minimum deduction of 10%.)
  • As an example of the kind of work assumed, note the work done on the Matthew 14.22-33 text (cf above for keys), and the following summary pages:
