The following texts deal with the "Binding of Isaac." For each text, I have a question(s) in boldface to help you understand the reading.

As you read the texts below and as you reflect back upon Genesis 22, keep the following questions in mind:

  • Why did Abraham obey God’s command?

  • What is Isaac’s role in the drama? (BTW, how old was Isaac when this happened?)

  • How could God ask such a thing of Abraham, even if it was only a “test”?

  • What about Sarah in all of this?

Note toward the bottom of this page that you are asked to read selections from either Kierkegaard or Auerbach.

After completing the readings, write two or three sentences explaining why the Akedah account is so important within Christian history. All I want to see is this final summary statement which you should post here on the blog.
