1. Can I get network access while at the Seminary on my
laptop?
Yes. There are network jacks located in various rooms across the
campus. Your laptop computer will need an Ethernet card (not a
modem) and you will
also need your own Ethernet cable (not a telephone cord) to
access the network. Only use the BLUE jack for connecting your computer to
the network. (See a photo.)
You should be able to access the internet and check mail on your computer.
If you encounter any problems send email to
ithelps@ltsg.edu or call 338-3037.

2. Are there computer labs available for use at the Seminary?
Yes. There are two public labs on campus with computers that also
have access
to the internet. One is located in the lower level of Valentine
Hall, Room 121. The second is located on the main floor of the
Wentz Library. Instructions for logging into the computers are
posted in the labs. If you encounter any problems send email to
ithelp@ltsg.edu or call 338-3037.

3. How can I make long distance calls to family and
friends?
Cellular service from Seminary Ridge, and throughout town, is
excellent, so carry that cell phone! If you don’t own a cell phone note
that there are no pay phones on campus. House phones, located throughout
all campus buildings, are local access only. Making long distance calls
from those house phones requires use of either a toll free number or a
toll free long distance calling card.

4. What is the Day-in Context?
On Friday, July 21th Day-in-Context groups
will travel to various sites throughout the region to observe ministries
at the point where church and world intersect. Typically, this is not a
hands-on diaconal experience for participants but a place where your eyes
view others living their baptismal vocation. The selected sites vary and
assignments are made based on size of vehicles, mixing of participants
into different small groups, gender, geographic history, etc. Assignments
are not made based on your written area of specialization.
Formal business attire is not expected but I hope
that participants dress in appropriate casual attire.
Folks depart campus between 8:30 and 9:30 (depending
on the site) and return later in the afternoon. Lunch at the site is
provided by host organizations (whom the Center reimburses).

5. What do I do during the weekend in the
middle of the Formation Event?
We’ll provide Pennsylvania 2005 Travel Planners for the
adventurous folk who want to see other parts of the Commonwealth (the PA
Dutch Country in Lancaster County, Philadelphia, various State Parks in
the Commonwealth, the National Civil War Museum in Harrisburg, and the
like).
True introverts love private time that weekend and
simply relish strolling through town, enjoying Saturday morning’s Farmers
Market in the Gettysburg Square, doing laundry in on-campus facilities,
and sleeping. True extroverts keep moving – at times traveling as far
away as New York or the closest Atlantic Ocean beach resorts! What you do
is up to you (yes, the staff uses this time for refreshment and
rejuvenation)!
If you signed up for the Battlefield Tour on Saturday
afternoon remember to fit that into your plans as the first week of the
Event moves along.

6. Questions on the Reading List
Everyone participating in the DMFE should arrive with
the reading list accomplished. Presenters presume that you’ve read the
noted material as they prepare lectures, present and encourage discussion.
This is a highly interactive experience. Things will make more sense to
you because you are prepared.
Questions are provided to guide your reflective thinking as you read.
Again, presenters believe this will enhance your experience of lectures
and discussions. There is no need to write responses (they aren’t
collected and graded)!

7. Are the facilities of the YWCA available
to participants?
The YWCA offers daily passes for $6 and weekly passes
for $15. The YWCA East, which is located on the Seminary grounds,
has a gymnasium, swimming pool, whirlpool and racquetball courts.
The YWCA West, located a couple miles from the Seminary, offers a
weight/fitness room. Passes may be purchased at the Y East
Information Desk.

8. Are linens provided? Where can I do laundry?
Linens (all bedding and towels) are provided for every room. Coin
operated laundry machines are located in on-campus housing. (We also
have coin machines, so there is no need to pack quarters!)

9. Should I bring the reading list texts with me to the DMFE?
Ultimately, that is a decision for you to make. No additional reading
assignments will be given during the event. You might want texts as a
reference, however. The most valuable one to pack is From Word and Sacrament (Larson, editor).

10. Where do I go upon arrival?
Upon arrival, you may go directly to your housing assignment. Aberly,
Baughman and Singmaster outside doors will be open. Staff from
Diana's Limousine have a housing assignment list and campus map and
truly know how to get you where you need to be! Signs will also be
posted inside noting everyone's assigned housing. Your room will
have a welcome sign with your name on it and the door will be unlocked.
A participant notebook and name badge will also be in the room. Inside the
notebook will be your room key. Check out the Explore Gettysburg
booklet for information on local restaurants, places to worship, shop,
etc...
Registration in Beekmann Commons (Valentine Hall) begins at 1:00 pm on
Sunday. Please bring your notebook and payment for the event and wear
your name badge. Light refreshments will be available in the Coffee
Shop in Valentine Hall during registration.
